Pediatric research society honors VUMC’s Polack
Fernando Polack, M.D., has been named to receive the Society for Pediatric Research's 2010 E. Mead Johnson Award. The national award honors individuals for their research achievements in pediatrics.

Vanderbilt researchers search for pneumonia causes
The study is funded by the CDC and will enroll 6,400 patients nationwide, 2,600 at Vanderbilt, making it the largest community-acquired pneumonia study in more than a decade. Kathryn Edwards, M.D., director of the Vanderbilt Vaccine Research Program (VVRP), is principal investigator for Vanderbilt and its participating neighboring hospitals.

As director of the Pediatric Residency Program, Rebecca Swan, M.D., brings remarkable experience and enthusiasm to physician training. She plays a critical role in supporting our goal of providing an environment where residents can learn, grow and develop as a physician, a pediatrician, and as a person. She is active in efforts to promote literacy and also serves on the International Leadership Committee at Vanderbilt, reflecting her significant interest in international medicine.

The Division of Adolescent Medicine, led by Lynn Walker, Ph.D., provides care for the transition period between childhood and adulthood. Addressing the health care needs of this age group requires consideration of their complex issues. The Division is committed to promoting the health and well-being of adolescents and their families through multi-disciplinary clinical care, research, education and advocacy.
