Flying the V! Improving clinic efficiency
September 11, 2017

This month we are Flying the V for the General Pediatrics DOT8 team, led by Dr. Kate Carlson. Dr. Carlson and her team have been working on clinic efficiency with a particular focus on the total time patients spend in clinic (cycle time). Since the inception of the work in early 2016, they have reduced the average cycle time by 11 minutes. Their efforts have focused on improving nursing and provider teamwork and processes, increasing nursing staff participation and visit facilitation, and reordering visit components.

The team includes Tom Young, Maggie Brown, A.C. Coleman, Michelle Kennedy, Nick Winchester, Michelle Graham, C.J. Smith, Barron Frazier, Matthew Dove, Kevin Glatt, Merrill Stoppelbein, Holly Miller, Seth Scholer, Rosemary Hunter, Rebecca Swan and Denise Pullella. Layle Kenyon and Kathy Moss have sponsored the work. PM&I’s Caroline Epps has helped generate data.

We hope the lessons learned on DOT8 will spread to other areas after we stabilize eStar.
