The division offers a wide variety of specialized pediatric critical care services. We also conduct research, offer teaching and training opportunities for a wide range of education and experience levels, and provide outreach programs to the community. The Pediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) is a 36-bed unit that provides highly specialized care for critically ill children. The PCCU admits patients from all medical and surgical services at Vanderbilt. The Children's Hospital is a major referral center for various pediatric subspecialties including pediatric trauma, organ transplantation, cardiothoracic surgery and burns. In addition, the PCCU supports an ECMO unit, a Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, a Rapid Response team and a Pediatric Sedation Service. Our division is also proud to be associated with Vanderbilt LifeFlight, one of the highest-rated and busiest critical care air medical transport services in the country, which has a dedicated helipad on the roof of the Children's Hospital.
